Are you a first-time leader? Does your ego sometimes feel like a ping pong ball? 🫠
Whether you are a start up founder leading your first employees or climbing up the corporate ladder, now suddenly being the boss of your former team members: Chances are high that you feel proud and happy for how far you have already come - while at the same time feeling lost and overwhelmed in your first-time leadership role.
The reason for your mixed feelings is a big transition: away from the passion (aka building your product, your service, …) that made you excel in the past, towards delegating your previous daily responsibilities, developing yourself into a role of leadership and team orchestration.
Today I want to share 3 questions with you that will help you settle into your first-time leadership role:
ONE: Which leadership style do I want to pursue?
Find the sweet spot between giving too much advice (from your rich experience) vs. giving too much space: an e.g. coaching leadership style might be a good point to start with.
TWO: How can I measure my success as a leader?
Your contribution now looks different than before you became a leader. Think about two to three KPI’s that match your new role best.
THREE: Who could be my new peer group?
Find yourself a safe space of likeminded leaders to exchange, reflect and grow together - and build meaningful relationships with them.
